Xinghua Fan

Xinghua Fan got his PhD in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from the University of Toronto and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Environment Canada, researching air quality monitoring. He joined Health Canada in 2007 and has been working as a senior research chemist in the Exposure and Biomonitoring Division for over 18 years. His research focuses on monitoring contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in environmental and biological samples, including drinking water, indoor dust, serum, and electronic cigarette refill fluids. Targeted CECs include legacy and novel flame retardants (e.g., PBDEs, organophosphates, chlorinated paraffins, and non-PBDE halogenated flame retardants), triclosan, parabens, synthetic musks, alkyl phenols and their ethoxylates, bisphenol A and its analogues, phthalate esters and their alternatives, and PFAS. He has published over a dozen papers on emerging contaminants in indoor house dust and serum samples. He will give a presentation on 'Occurrence of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Canadian House Dust.'
