Jacqueline Staab

Jacqueline Staab, originally from Morehead City, North Carolina is a conservation scientist, Bombus biologist and founder of Darwin’s Bee Dogs. Darwin’s Bee Dogs is a conservation detection dog program which specializes in locating the nests of wild bumblebees for research and conservation. Her work addresses one of the most significant gaps in pollinator science which is limited knowledge of nesting and overwintering ecology. By developing and deploying specialized detection dogs, she provides researchers with access to nests that are otherwise nearly impossible to find.

With over a decade of experience studying bumblebees, Jacqueline has contributed to the identification of Bombus Incognitus as part of an international research team and has advanced field methodologies for studying wild pollinator populations.

In addition to her research, Jacqueline is a dedicated advocate for native bee conservation and public engagement. Her work has been featured in national and International media, including The Weather Channel, NPR and NBC and has helped to raise awareness of pollinator decline and innovative conservation solutions. She also mentors emerging conservation detection programs including international efforts to train bumblebee detection dogs.
